Kubuntu woes
I downloaded the firmware for my router. Unpacked it. It's the same as the firmware already installed. Bugger - why can't they (d-link) provide the version of the firmware on the download page? Aaaarg! Well, that won't be a solution. But then, I don't really know what the problem is. This forum suggests it's an IPv6 issue. After following the destructions to turn the IPv6 module off, rebooting a couple of times (there was an extra alias...) it appeared IPv6 was no longer loaded. But it had no positive effect on the problem! In desperation, I followed the workaround: added my ISP's nameservers to /etc/resolv.conf, which worked. It's sitting there now, doing a apt-get dist-upgrade. It says it'll be 6 hours. That's no bad thing, I should be getting some work done.
